In 2018, All Tvvins musician Lar Kaye undertook an ambitious project in which he aimed to record a piece of music every day throughout the entire year. Whether he was at home in Dublin or touring in Europe, he’d take the time to document the day with a recording.
As the project progressed, the nature of his recordings evolved. Some would be based on conventional instrumentation - guitars, synths, piano - but other times he might capture a field recording and manipulate to create pieces.
Now Lar Kaye shares ‘2018’, which is available to stream or download at larkaye.com. The project is complemented by a collection of photography that he created in tandem with the recordings. The tracks are all released and the hope is that other people will use in their own projects which could span original recordings, remixes or to accompany films. Having first came to attention with Adebisi Shank, Lar Kaye subsequently formed All Tvvins with Conor Adams. Their 2016 debut album ‘IIVV’ reached #2 on the Irish charts and was nominated for the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year. They released their second album, ‘Just To Exist’, earlier this year. The album pushed their total streams over the 22 million landmark and they played their biggest headline show to date at Dublin’s National Stadium.
